If you are empowered and have your one opponent on the ground and under control, don’t think that situation can’t flip. There can be a concealed weapon in the game, or just a fight that starts again the second you release your grip.
When controlling an opponent on the ground, try to have position where you have the opponents back and not the arms/legs in your direction. You should control the arm on top.
When detaching alone with no backup/police, do it in the direction from the opponent’s head. First scan your exit, release your grip, take 5 steps back, still watching the guy on the ground and keep your arms up. From here turn around and go/run to a safe location.
When dealing with multiple opponents, don’t think that it will be pretty. You will be lucky to be in one piece and will properly not be in a control situation. Expect to run when you have created that window of time that makes this possible.
Don’t stick around and celebrate your victory, everybody loses in a fight, but you have survived. Get yourselves to a safe location asap.
